Supporting you when you stop

Emily Shannon

There is nothing worse than making it through to Christmas eve, heading home to relax, and being struck down with the lurgy on Christmas Day!  We see this happen far too often, and whilst we may not be able to help with your inbox over the festive period, we are able to support you when you press that all-important ‘off’ button. So we’ve put together a few tips on how to help yourself make the most out of your Christmas break!

One of the most important things is to make you allow some ‘you-time’. During the festive period, we can all get a little caught up in the festivities that we forget to allow ourselves a little time out. Although we all have different ways to switch off, sometimes it’s important to give ourselves that daily reminder. Who knows, that little extra ‘you-time’ might just make the busy period even more enjoyable and it will certainly help when we stop!

  • Yoga/meditation

  • Adding in some yoga practice or a little meditation is a great way to help yourself relax and press that all-important ‘off-button’. Yoga and meditation can help to control breathing, which can help to reduce stress, as well as helping to lower blood pressure and heart rate.

Not only that, but yoga and meditation can allow us to focus our minds and forget about the hustle and bustle for a little while. Gentle exercise in the form of yoga can help to boost energy, help to boost our metabolism and improve blood circulation. But it doesn’t stop there, exercise also helps to boost our mood which can leave us feeling fantastic, and ready to relax and enjoy some time-out.

  • Get some rest

  • It’s well known that rest can be a secret weapon when it comes to feeling our best. Rest is something that is often in short supply in December in the build-up to Christmas; so when we do finally stop its always at the top of our list! When we are out of our normal routine, it can have an impact on our internal body clock known as our circadian rhythm. This can leave us feeling exhausted and below par, so allowing plenty of time for rest is essential to ensure that we go into 2020 feeling our absolute best.

It’s important to remember the importance of rest, our body can’t perform at its peak, so it’s really important to make sure you find that ‘off-switch’. If you struggle, then why not try our Food BasedTM Magnesium? Magnesium helps our muscles to relax, which can help to promote deep and restful sleep. You can find out more about why Magnesium is essential for a good night’s sleep over on another blog here.

  • Take some time out

  • When we say time-out, we mean taking a little break from the daily grind. Whether that be work, emails or social media. It’s important to get ourselves a break from the stresses of daily life, in order to be able to tackle the new year at your absolute best! This always sounds easy, but for many is surprisingly hard! Making time for the things that we enjoy should be the top of your checklist to help you tackle your 2020 goals head-on. Some of our favourite ways to take time out include:

    • Getting some fresh air - there’s no better time to get outdoors for a walk then when the air is cold, fresh and crisp! Evidence suggests that daily fresh air can help to strengthen the immune system, boost natural energy levels boost our blood circulation. Who’s with us?!

    • Have a warm bath - we love relaxing in the bath, adding aromatherapy oils or magnesium flakes is the perfect addition. We love Westlab salts, they are our go-to when we need a little  ‘me-time’!

    • Read a good book - switching from social media to one of your favourites books could really help you to switch off. Reading or focussing on something different will help your mind to switch off and focus on something else for a little while, perfect when you’re trying to switch off.

    • Have a cup of tea - having a warm cup of herbal tea not only has countless health benefits but has also been shown to de-stress and promote a calming effect, what more could you want?

  • Try our Relax Complex
