The answer to this underpins our philosophy: we strongly believe in meeting your nutritional needs the way nature intended.
Taking regular supplements, which contain doses of simplistic isolated vitamins and minerals, is not the most natural way to support your health. Why? Because your body can't absorb them well.
Food Based® supplements on the other hand, which recreate the sophisticated matrix of natural foods, are readily absorbed by the body as it recognises its structure. Therefore the health benefits skyrocket.
At Link Nutrition, our goal is to provide a better way of getting the vitamins and minerals you need, when you’re not getting enough from the food you eat. At the heart of this is Food Based.
Food Based is the result of combining scientific discovery with a natural fermentation process.
Unlock the benefits of Food Based's three key factors
Food Based nutrients are presented to the body in a food matrix meaning that your body can recognise and absorb them like food. This enables you to maximise your nutrient intake and get the most out of your supplement.
Better used by your body
The effectiveness of a supplement is tempered by its ability to be absorbed and utilised by the body. Food Based nutrients are in a food matrix, so the body can recognise and absorb them more easily. Studies show that the Food Based nutrients have enhanced digestability (amphiphilicity).
Nutrients in their Food Based state are more effective than isolated nutrients. The reason Food Based supplements are so effective is that they don’t provide vitamins and minerals in isolation, but in conjunction with the beneficial cofactors with which they are found in nature. This means that Food Based supplements can be more effective than conventional supplements, even at significantly lower doses. What's more, because Food Based supplements are complete with the cofactors that are found in nature, there is less risk of creating vitamin imbalances and they are gentle on the stomach.
Plants and animals contain nutrients in highly complex formations within a matrix containing proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and phytonutrients.
These nutrients are bound to each other, and therefore are protected as they make their way through the body, to their target site.
Our Food Based® supplements recreate this food-matrix so you can enjoy the benefits of food in a simple, easy-to-swallow, convenient capsule.
A dietary supplements effectiveness is determined by the quantity of nutrients absorbed by the gut.
Natrual processes like fermentation, leavening, and culturing, deactivate enzyme inhibitors and allow enzymes to work more efficiently - this allows for more absorbable nutrients.
Our Food Based® supplements recreate these effects, making them a brilliantly effective way to get the nutrients you need.
"Food is more than a sum of individual isolated components"
Nutrients typically present in the Food Based® fermentate including phospholipids, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, saponins, phytosterols, amino acids, omega-3 fatty acids, oligosaccharides, dietary fibre, minerals and vitamins
Heard of saccharomyces cerevisiae? Not many people have. It's a type of yeast and one of nature's most cherished food micro-organisms. We use these little miracle workers to turn vitamins and minerals from pure isolated chemicals into complex components of a whole food matrix. Here's how the process works.
We purify water through a carbon filtration system, under controlled conditions, at a moderate temperature.
We add the whole food base to the purified water. The whole food we begin with is specific to the vitamin/mineral being made. For example, citrus pulp for vitamin C or carrot concentrates for beta-carotene. We then add soy natto with all its beneficial phytonutrients intact. Our whole food media contains: NO animal-derived proteins or carbohydrates like gelatin or lactose NO modified starch such as maltodextrin. NO preservatives or pesticides
Targeted vitamin or mineral is added prior to fermentation e.g. ascorbic acid for vitamin C.
Live Saccharomyces cerevisiae is added and undergoes vigorous fermentation for up to 72 hours under controlled temperatures. The yeast’s numerous enzymes metabolize, transform and modify the whole food media ingredients to bio-enhance the nutrients, vitamin and mineral isolates into more complex structures. At the end of the 72 hours, the yeast is inactivated using enzymes from pineapple in a way that ensures it’s hypo-allergenic and safe for those with yeast intolerances.
The water and fermented liquid product are evaporated through spray drying.
Rigorous quality assurance checks including microbiological testing are conducted.
