Adaptogenic Ashwagandha: Find out why we love this ancient herb
Emily Shannon
We wanted to introduce you to the first of our two new products Adaptogenic Ashwagandha! As you know, we’re always looking for ways we can include mushrooms and herbs in our blends for their amazing health benefits and ashwagandha is no different! However, not all ashwagandha products are created equal - so we want to let you know why ours is so unique!
Ashwagandha in Ayurveda
Let’s start by letting you know why ashwagandha is one of our herbal heroes! Ashwagandha is an ancient adaptogenic herb that helps to promote calm by helping to reduce stress, helping to bring the body back into balance. Ashwagandha, also known as Withania Somnifera (Solanaceae) or “Indian Ginseng” is a well-known herb of Ayurvedic practice and is acknowledged for its wide-ranging health benefits.
Various parts of the herb can be used to obtain its health-promoting benefits. Traditionally the root would be powdered and cooked in milk with molasses or mixed with ghee. However, the most common form found today is in a tincture; consisting of water and alcohol, or as a powder in supplement form like ours! There are several active components present in ashwagandha and these include; alkaloids, lactones (withanolides and withaferins) and saponins. We’re going to talk a little more about our formulation is a moment but ours includes 32.5g of active withanolides!
Herbal Hero: Ashwagandha
A recent study by the Mental Health Foundation has shown that 61% of adults experience stress and feelings of anxiety every day, which is where ashwagandha could help. Our ashwagandha formula is designed to the body’s needs by balancing stress levels, hormonal levels and providing potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help to support the immune system. Our bespoke, high-potency ashwagandha supplement is designed to help you fight the stressors of modern life.
So you can see at a glance, here are just some of the reasons we love ashwagandha SO much! We’ve included some studies so it’s easy for you to find out a little more!
- It helps to support adrenal function by helping to regulate cortisol levels.
- Ashwagandha can help to boost our energy levels naturally when we need an energy boost.
- It’s a go-to herb when it comes to balancing both stress and hormonal levels, helping to bring the body back into balance.
- Ashwagandha helps to provide important immune support, boosting the immune system thanks to its powerful antioxidant properties.
- It can help to regulate the sleep-wake cycle, also known as our circadian rhythm; so it is popular for those that struggle to get to sleep and stay asleep.
Adaptogenic Ashwagandha
Our ashwagandha is ideal for anyone trying to balance their stress levels naturally. Studies suggest that ashwagandha can help our bodies to restore balance by providing adrenal support and balancing the stress hormone cortisol. The adaptogenic properties of ashwagandha make it suitable for those looking to fight fatigue, boost energy levels and increase stamina and endurance. But what do we mean by ‘adaptogenic’?.
Adaptogens are a unique group of herbal substances commonly used in traditional medicine for their ability to ‘promote homeostasis’, which means they help to restore balance. They demonstrate an ability to adapt their function dependent upon the body’s needs. In simpler terms, adaptogens help your body to stay at a healthy equilibrium; regulating energy levels, minimising fatigue and helping your body adapt to different stresses, both mentally and physically - hence the name “adaptogen”. As we’ve already said, ashwagandha has adaptogen status, pretty amazing right?!! If you want to find out more then head to the product page here.
Why choose our Ashwagandha
High-potency Ashwagandha
It’s the active compounds present in ashwagandha root that are responsible for the benefits that we associate with this herbal hero. Withanolides are the best-known active constituents in Ashwagandha. Each daily dose of our Ashwagandha is made using 13.5 grams of ashwagandha root (roughly equivalent to 1 tablespoon!), and this provides 32.5mg of active withanolides. These are the bioactive compounds that you should be looking for when you purchase, the higher the level of these compounds, the higher the potency of the supplement!
